This beautiful Yves Saint Laurent set dates to the time period around his famous 1976 77 Russian collection and showcases the care and attention to detail that he put into his work. That, combined with the wonderful color of the set and its unusual fabric treatment of the silk, is what really make this a special piece. It is two separate pieces plus a tie sash belt, which gives the set endless styling potential as they can be worn together or mixed in with other pieces from your wardrobe. The fabric is the star of the show on this set. The silk is a deep fuchsia color with hand painted gold dots covering the surface from top to bottom. This is contrasted by panels of silk used for the underskirts that are in a solid, non dotted version of the same color. The skirt has three tiers of fabric at the bottom and also has an dropped back hem so that it is longer at the back than the front. This gives it a lovely curving swoop and adds extra movement once on. The top is cut like a light jacket so can be worn as a stand alone piece, tucked in as a shirt as I have shown, or worn layered over something. It buttons down the front and has a gold metallic braiding that edges the seams at the shoulder and neck. Once on and the sash is tied, the set has the feel of a true dress. Excellent condition. Both the top and skirt are unlined. The skirt closes at the side with a painted zipper and flat hook and eye at the waist. The top buttons to close down the front and has a button and loop at each cuff. A touch of patina to the buttons. The top is tagged a vintage YSL 38, the skirt a 40. Original tie belt. It appears to have never been worn, or worn very little.
